Bounce Back Weekend For Boney!
Silver Lake, KS. - Sometimes you can come up with new phrases or themes when you think about what's going on around you. Dustin Boney's car owner, Jason Thompson, came up with one for this weekend. He said that it was a 'Bounce Back' weekend for the race team.
Last Saturday night summed up just how the early portion of the season has gone for Dustin and the team.
After running away with a heat win, Dustin lined up outside the front row for the feature. A spot that he felt comfortable with leading up to the main event.
The night didn't go as planned. Dustin would lead more than half of the race, but while trying to navigate lapped traffic was pushed up the track coming out of turn 4 and it lost him the lead. It actually put him back to 3rd.
Not to be out of the running, Boney gave it his all and went back after the leaders. This time he discovered a new problem, he had no brakes. So without brakes Boney was having to drive the car a little harder than normal. Coming up on the same lapped car from earlier, Boney came up to his rear bumper and then went to pass him on the high side of turn one. The lapped car pushed up and Dustin went off the top of the track, which brought out a yellow flag. Dustin also suffered a flat tire that would take him out of the race completely.
"We have excellent race cars, but we just can't seem to finish. That is the way our year has went," said Boney, "If I would have had brakes, I would have been able to drive around the lap cars."
It still disheartening to know you have one of the fastest cars out there and you don't come home with the win.
"I like racing at Central Missouri. It has a reputation of being a rough race track and when it rains two or three inches during the week, you know it's going to be rough," said Boney, "We prepared ourselves for that. We had the fastest race car, it just didn't go our way in the end. It's an action packed race track that takes a driver to get the job done."
Look for Boney to return to CMS several times in the '08 season.
Sunday night, race fans will get a double dose of Dustin Boney this weekend. The Bob Ramey Memorial race is scheduled for Sunday at Sedalia's State Fair Speedway. This is another track that Dustin enjoys.
"I have raced a handful of times there," said Boney, "I won the '04 State Fair race, I believe that I have won 3 out of my last 5 races there. I don't know what it is that I like about the track, I just do."
Last week was the first week for Robert Schlueter Motor Sports to be a one car team and it seems to work rather well.
"Over the last year, we have lost some people who used to help us," said Boney, "Two race cars were tough to maintain with one person. It's where it got to be more work, than fun. So to go back to just one car is a big relief."
The move to just one car will be a push in the right direction for the team. They have never been short on having good equipment, but now they can go out each and every race and get the items that they are going to need to make them successful.
